Why the Boston Revolt Happened
The Boston Revolt Of 1689 happened simply because the colonists "wanted Royal Governor Edmond Andros out of the colonies and their government returned to the way it had been before he came" ("The revolution of 1689 in Boston: Part One"). You may ask what did Andros do for the colonists to not like him so much. Well, he enforced the restrictive Navigation Acts, "denying the validity of existing land titles. Andros also restricted town meetings, and appointing unpopular regular officers to lead the colonial militia" ("Historicalcyclesofamericansocialchange.").
What Exactly Was the Boston Revolt?
It was a famous outbreak opposing the regimen of Sir Edmond Andros. The Boston revolt was also a broadening of the Glorious Revolution of 1688 in Britain, it was actually really small and brief, it didn't last long. But the Boston Revolt wasn't anything like the American Revolution that came more than 100 years later, the Boston Revolt didn't associate a colonial pursuit to get independence from their Motherland, Great Britain.
The Start of the Revolt
Around 5:00 a.m., the Militia started to meet outside Boston at Charlestown. "About 2 hours later the Charlestown Companies bordered boats, while the Roxbury Companies marched down into the city."("Historicalcyclesofamericansocialchange.").
The Militia began arresting dominion and regimented leaders at around 8:30 a.m.. "After arresting the leaders they eventually surrounded Fort Mary, where Andros was."("Historicalcyclesofamericansocialchange." ). Around 10:00 mainly all of the dominion and military leaders had been arrested or vanished to safety at Castle Island. Sometime before 12:00 an orange flag was lifted and placed out on Beacon Hill, to signal another 1,500 Militiamen to come into the city. They met in the square and a declaration was read. The ex-governor, Simon Bradstreet, recommended that Governor Andros to surrender but he forbid himself to and tried to flee on the Militia boat, Rose, but "he was forced back to Fort Mary."("Historicalcyclesofamericansocialchange."). Andros was taken under close watch. The Rose and Fort William on Castle Island would not surrender right away. But, on the 19th, when the ships crew discovered that the captain had prepared to take the ship back to France to accompany the exiled James, "a struggle ensured, and the protestants among the crew took down the ship's rigging. Then the troops on Castle Island saw this and they surrendered."("Historicalcyclesofamericansocialchange.").
